Not everyone is lucky enough to
be born into a family where a positive attitude prevails from generation to
generation. In reality, many families reflect a consistent negative attitude
about almost everything.
If you as an individual or
collectively as a family, recognize the power inherent in positivity, it
becomes possible to retrain your thoughts for positive thinking.
What is positive thinking?
Collinsdictionary.com suggests
that positive
thinking is “an
optimistic attitude” or “a technique for changing your attitude and
fostering optimism.”
Consider the following tips:
Begin to analyze your own
thought processes. When you look at the world around you, what do you see and
how do you see it? Do you have a positive outlook? For example, it is raining. You
have the option of seeing rain in a positive light or from a negative
perspective. How you see the rain will not change the reality that it is
raining, but it may affect your attitude and your plans for the day. You can
make the choice of seeing the rain in a positive light and taking positive
action, in spite of the rain.
When you realize that your
perception of something is negative, become proactive in a positive manner
immediately, recognizing that have the inner power to change your thinking to a
positive perception. How you think will ultimately color the thinking of others, too.
Do you always see your world in
a positive or negative light? Perhaps you look at it without making any kind of
a judgment in terms of being either positive or negative. Are you seeing
everything in a neutral light, void of emotional attachment or judgment?
Your perception and judgment
have to do with your emotions and feelings. A negative, critical spirit may
prevail because of how you feel. Acknowledging a negative, critical spirit may
help you to recognize the reality that your feelings are in control of you,
when you should be in control of your feelings instead. When you control your
feelings, you can eradicate negative thoughts or thought patterns.
You may think that others will
respect you because you assume a negative, critical attitude towards
everything, including your life and those of others. That is not necessarily
true, as others are far more likely to be attracted to positivity than
negativity.
You may be surprised to learn that focusing on the positive is a powerful, Christian principle. Flexibility is an important
aspect of mental health. as well..
Remember that there is always a time to be negative
and a time to be positive. If you have to choose, be flexible and choose to be
positive. Your choices will gradually retrain your thought processes for
positive thinking.
