The Importance of Building the Soul as it Pertains to Business: The Soul of a Business is its People

The reason why building the soul of a business organization is so important has to do with the reality that the soul of a business organization is what people relate to, not the business organization itself. A business organization without a soul seldom survives for very long.

What is the soul of a business organization?

In reference to a business organization, other words that may be interchangeable with the word soul, may be its heart or essence. A business organization with a heart functions on a high level with respect to its employees, as well as others. Its essence demonstrates a high standard of excellence.

The word ethics is central when referring to building the soul of a business organization because it is the ethical principles and practice under which the business organization operates, that are some of the major determining factors with respect to its success or failure. Non-ethical business organizations tend to die quickly.

Normally, the word soul implies human beings rather than business organizations. At the same time, at the root of all business organizations are human beings.

Individuals with souls function together as a collective whole or represent a unified soul in a business organization. Because they speak with one voice, empowerment is evident, whereas otherwise they struggle as individuals in business.

Every business organization starts with its own mission statement or mandate central with respect to its soul, essence or heart. It is what gives the business organization its life, meaning and credibility to others.

In the article, “Soul of a new business”, Chris Brogan suggests that soul is “the moral and intentional guidance and ‘life’ of your company.”

Business organizations strive toward high ideals that lie at the heart of what they are attempting to accomplish. Mutual integrity, ingenuity and innovation are important and tend to motivate business owners and their employees towards a higher good, often godliness.

Thus, the soul of a business organization depicts its spirituality, oriented towards the well-being of everyone who is part of the business organization, as well as others beyond its scope. The goodness of a business organization rebounds within its community and around the globe.

The importance of building the soul of a business organization cannot be under-estimated. The soul builders tend to be business organization leaders, not followers and have to power to influence others for good. They often become community or global leaders.
